Fairbourne – A Super Savvie

October 1, 2015 by Russell

Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, has recently published a list of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc wines that he expects to be super savvies, and we’re pleased to say we’re on the list!

Bob says that he expects Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from 2015 to be a very special vintage, and we couldn’t agree more.

Read his article HERE.

Screen Shot 2015-09-30 at 11.26.54 amSarah & I feel like we’re double dipping as far as vintage goes this year. Having had a wonderful New Zealand harvest earlier in the year, we’re thrilled to be ensconced in Chavignol, Sancerre for another harvest.

We’ve been part of the third earliest harvest in the region since 1976! We’ve been earning our keep… Picking is completed by picking into a bucket, once full, these are transferred to the Hotte, (pronounced ‘OT’).
Then the Hotte is emptied into the trailer. The Hotte carries an average load of 65-70 kg, 80 kg if full!

Sarah’s been helping with the processing, and getting a regular dose of cellar envy…

It won’t be long before we head back to New Zealand and we’ll be bringing some “old world” knowledge from Sancerre; that we know will translate into another stellar Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc…

Hand Picked Sauvignon Blanc – So Much Better Than Socks!

August 27, 2014 by Russell

Father and Son – Russell and Louis

Father’s Day, a celebration honouring fathers, celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society was inaugurated in the United States in the early 20th century to complement Mother’s Day. The day we celebrate this occasion in New Zealand, falls on the first Sunday in September. With that date (7th September) just over a week away, it’s time to think about how you’re going to spoil Dad this year.

Take a break from socks and give him something he’ll really love, the taste of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc? No, even better than that…. how about the taste of premium hand-picked Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc?

Reviewed last week by Joelle Thompson as a “Wine of the Week” in  Your Weekend Magazine in The Dominion Post, The Christchurch Press and The Waikato Times, Fairbourne 2013 was described as…

Smooth and subtle, showing that a little oak goes a long way in a full bodied sauvignon blanc from a sun drenched north facing vineyard in the  Wairau Valley, Marlborough.

Tech Savvy

August 16, 2014 by Sarah

Fairbourne_WineAppAs producers of hand picked, premium Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, we’re always interested to see new ways for wine lovers to choose and review wines.

We’ve been doing a little research on some of the great wine apps out there for Android and iPhone and here are a couple of our favourites.

1: Vivino – Never Pick Another Bad Wine – Focusing on user generated content the Vivino app community has more than 5.5 million wine loving users (and that figure rises daily). It’s been reviewed as the wine app for “Normal People” (read the review on the Forbes website).

Here’s the Vivino app advert.

2: NZ Wine App – Launched at the end of last year, NZ Wine App allows users to scan the barcode of a wine bottle with its inbuilt barcode scanner, and gives instant access to that wine’s:

  • Tasting Notes
  • Food Match
  • Awards
  • Reviews
  • Wine Makers Notes
  • Technical Info, and more.

It also has user generated reviews. Read about the young entrepreneur, Alex Harper, and his launch of the app in this New Zealand Herald article.

Of course if you’re using either of these great apps already feel free to give Fairbourne a review, we’d love to hear what you have to say!

Gourmet Wine Traveller – Fairbourne 2013 Review

June 25, 2014 by Russell

Gourmet Wine Traveller Review for Fairbourne 2013 Have you picked up the latest issue of Gourmet Wine Traveller? It might be the Big Red Issue but the “100 Top New Releases” wine reviews feature some fabulous whites…… Fairbourne Sauvignon Blanc 2013 included!

This is what they have to say…..

Four per cent of the wine was oak fermented to add texture and complexity. The result is a weighty, complex sauvignon blanc with concentrated lemon grass, mineral and subtle gooseberry flavours. A tight and powerful wine.

Screen Shot 2014-06-25 at 7.35.25 pmFairbourne 2013 receives a score of 96/100, one of the highest scores awarded to Sauvignon Blanc in the June release of Gourmet Wine Traveller. So that’s 5 stars and a Gourmet Traveller Wine seal of approval, we’re pretty pleased with that!
